One of my favorite things to do when I was in grade school was to get up from my desk and sharpen my pencil. I loved switching the dial to the right size and the smell of pencil shavings and lead.
I did this so much that I was often asked to "Please return to your seat!"
As an adult, I still have a fondness for sharp pencils. There is a jar of them on my desk and I keep about 10 to 12 in there at all times. As soon as one gets the slightest bit dull, I put it on the right hand side of my desk and pull a sharp one from the jar on my left. Then, at the end of the day, I sharpen them all again.
Sadly, my office only has an electric pencil sharpener. There are, however, many manual pencil sharpeners like this one scattered about the library.
Oh, and they have to be Dixon Ticonderogas, number 2 please.
